What is self-care?

Self-care is any action that we do to maintain our physical, emotional and mental health. Anything you do to be good to yourself.


Importance of self-care

1. Stay energetic and productive

When you plan to make time for yourself, you would cut down a lot of time that over-extent yourself and making time for things that are more important for you. Focusing on priority would prevent you from being overwhelmed and exhausted, thus you could stay energetic and productive, no matter in work or life.


2. Enhance body health

Engaging in the activities or hobby you love so much could help you to relax could reduce the stress and tension you suffered daily. By minimizing the stress and tension, you could stay away from mental illness like depression, anxiety, bipolar and so on. Self-care activities would assist your body goes into a restful, rejuvenating mode, helping it to fortify its immune system. Thus, with better self-care often come fewer colds, cases of flu and upset stomachs.


3. Enhance self-esteem

Practicing self-care would help you always recognize your own needs and do something to satisfy the needs. When you do this, you are sending positive message and energy to yourself, reminding yourself that you are worth it. This intrinsic value helps to combat negative self-talk and your critical inner voice.


4. Making you a good caregiver

If you are a mother or father, you would think yourself as a good caregiver if you are willing to neglect yourself and just focus on your family. However, you might not what you think. You can’t pour from an empty cup. If you forgot to nurture yourself you might increase your level of unhappiness, resentment and even at higher risk of burn out. Self-care would help you to recharge and give you the main resource to keep taking care of your loved one.

5. Enhance self-knowledge and love

When you try to make your “me” time, you could figure out what actually you like and dislike. This understanding helps you to know yourself better from time to time. “Me” time doesn’t mean to be alone but just doing what you want to do that would maintain your passion toward life. If you love yourself, don’t hesitate to give yourself some quality time.
